Producer

Charles Mutwiri

In 1979, Charles Mutwiri inherited 150 coffee trees from his father, which he expanded into the Mukarimu Estate, now boasting 14,000 trees producing over 80,000 kgs of coffee cherries. Despite market volatility, Charles has remained dedicated to coffee farming, inspiring others in Meru County to follow suit. His commitment extends to community empowerment, particularly through projects aimed at youth education and mentorship in coffee farming. In 2017, he distributed 30,000 seedlings to over 150 farmers. Charles oversees 33 acres of coffee farms, coordinates IMENYA, a partnership of 32 estates, and serves on the board of the New Kenya Planters Cooperative Union. The estate, benefiting from fertile red volcanic soil and ideal rainfall, processes its coffee meticulously before drying on raised beds. The name Mukarimu, reflecting his ancestral lineage and meaning "generous" in Swahili, symbolizes Charles' dedication to his community.
